Tonight and Sunday!
Hey TC Family, Is there a more significant weekend than this one in the whole year? No! This is the weekend we remember and celebrate what Jesus accomplished on the cross. If it weren't for what Jesus accomplished this weekend two thousand years ago, there would be no Transformation Church, no Christian communities, and no hope. Every year at Easter, we celebrate an event that took place in history, in real-time: the death and resurrection of our Lord! Tonight Tonight, we will gather at TC at 7 PM for a Good Friday service. Tonight's service will be a time of worship and prayer. In the middle of our worship time, we will make space for prayer and reflection. Good Friday was a depressing time for Jesus' followers 2000 years ago. On the night He died, their hopes and aspirations died along with Him. You see, they misunderstood His mission and why He had come. They had hoped He would fix all their issues. They were unhappy with their government, economic situation, and lives. They thought Jesus was going to change all of that, so when He died, they were filled with despair. We are going to take some time on Friday night to reflect on the things that cause us to feel despair. Unlike the disciples, we know that Sunday is coming. On Sunday, Jesus rose from the dead and conquered evil, death, despair, and hopelessness when He rose again. When the disciples encountered the risen Lord, their hearts and minds were transformed. They finally understood why He had come. Their despair was put to death once and for all. Tonight, we will reflect on what causes us despair, but we will do so in view of the resurrection of Jesus because we know that Sunday is coming! Next Sunday (April 7) Last week, Jeremy spoke beautifully about celebration (click the link below if you missed it). In light of that, we are going to celebrate as a community. On Sunday, April 7, following the service, we are going to have a potluck together. We will give more details in the service this coming Sunday. |
Be a BereanJesus is risen Can you imagine talking about someone without realizing they were there the whole time? That is exactly what happens in Luke 24:13-34. A disciple of Jesus named Cleopas was walking from Jerusalem to Emmaus with his friend, and they were talking about the death of Jesus. Jesus appeared to them, but His identity was veiled. Their conversation was drenched with doubt and despair, and they clearly misunderstood Jesus' mission. Jesus, appearing as a stranger, set the record straight. At the end of their conversation, Jesus' identity is revealed to them, and then He vanishes from their presence. Can you imagine what all of this would have felt like for Cleopas and his friend? Spend time reading this passage this weekend. Put yourself in Cleopas' shoes. If Jesus had heard you talking to your best friend about your life and your perception of the events of this world, do you think He would have corrected anything? Or do you think you have it all figured out?? As you read and ponder, listen for Jesus' voice. Ask Him to speak to you about what He is up to in your life today. View your life through His eyes and His perspective. Does anything change when you do this? I can't wait to gather on Easter Sunday morning to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord! Pastor Nathan
