Are you familiar with the term "deconstruction?"

It's a buzzword right now. A lot of people are walking away from the church with the explanation that they are deconstructing. A lot of people are pointing to the injustices in the church, how victims of abuse have been overlooked, how powerful leaders have been complicit in racism and corruption, etc.

Did you know Jesus agrees with some aspects of deconstruction? In John 10:8 Jesus says, "All who have come before me are thieves and robbers." Wow, what a statement eh! In John 10 Jesus compares the people of God to sheep, and He makes the claim that He is the Good shepherd. He acknowledged that there had been some terrible, horrible leaders who did evil things even in the name of God.

The good news is that Jesus tells us that He is the good shepherd. He is concerned with our lives, He can be trusted. This weekend I am looking forward to diving into John 10 so we can learn about what it means for Jesus to be our Good shepherd.
