Gene and Terry Howard met in Yellowknife, NWT and married in 1981. Gene is from the NWT, growing up in a missionary family in a small First Nations village accessible only by boat, dog team or air – his parents doing Bible translation work with the Dene people of the NWT. Terry was raised by Christian parents in London, ON, and was nursing in a First Nations community 100 km from Yellowknife when they met. They have a daughter, two sons and a grandson. After studies at Regent College, and then pastoring in Yellowknife for 4 years, they spent 3 years in Nepal in mission work, with Gene teaching school. After further studies at Ontario Theological Seminary, and 8 years of ministry in Alberta, they moved to Thunder Bay, ON where they have been ministering since 1999.
Gene’s ministry emphasis is prayer: congregational and within the city-wide church community, seeking to impact our city through the Body of Christ being united in Spirit and purpose. He also focuses on small group and one-on-one discipling, to see people living in freedom and maturity in Christ, and loves to lead worship with his guitar.
Terry is presently assisting with two para-church ministries: one (Rachel’s Vineyard) ministers to women/men having lost children through abortion or miscarriage; the other (Moms Connect) encouraging young moms, believers and seekers, to grow in community and faith.
Gene and Terry both love to spend time with their God in the great outdoors, especially in a canoe or kayak.
